Blue Smoke Blues Band
(from the Official Guide to the Laural Main Street Festival (1996))
If you've ever been to the Main Street Festival before, then you'll remember the sounds of Blue Smoke Blues Band. Their soul may be a mix of country, blues and swing, but their heart is pure Laurel. In fact, when they play in clubs and pubs throughout the Washington area, they are known as "the guys from Laurel."
The band's singer, Michael James Baker, who also plays rhythm and lead guitar, has lived in Laurel for quite some time, as has lead guitarist Danny Milkman. Both are graduates from Laurel High School.
Bass player Barry Novacell hails from nearby Bowie, and if drummer Bill Falk sounds like he's working magic for the group, better watch out. He wears two hats, drummer and magician and will be on the Seventh Street Stage in the two-man team of 2 Much Magic.
Vocalist Tony Q. makes a repeat guest appearance with the band.
You can catch the home-grown Blue Smoke Blues Band at the Seventh Street Stage from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
